ââ¨-⨠We are presenting a proposal for the funding of two Noun-ified episodes of the Ed B 'The Puppet' TV Series to be produced by an award winning team of creatives led by Ed Balloon.
As an extension of our stop motion animated short film pilot, âA Song About Black Loveâ, the new episodes will focus on amplifying diversity and utilizing satire as a powerful tool for social commentary.
We firmly believe that this project not only only serves to proliferate the Nouns, but further presents a unique opportunity to showcase the Nouns as trailblazers in fostering inclusivity and thought-provoking entertainment.

800,000 USD for the Development, Production, and Distribution of two episodes of The Ed B âThe Puppetâ Show to be completed over one year and funded in two phases:
Phase 1: 50% (400,000 USD) of funding due upon execution.
Phase 2: 50% (400,000 USD) due upon completion of Phase 1.
Funds for Phase 1 transferred to Ed Balloon LLC upon execution. A proposal for Phase 2 will be submitted upon completion of Phase 1.
Meet Ed B âThe Puppetâ. Heâs a fatalistic struggling music artist just trying to make it. Everyday Ed B faces a new challenge â having to fight off racists at Trader Joes while perusing the vegan aisle, or running butt ass naked for a couple of dollars to pay his rent, OR having to sell photos of himself on the internet to help fund his next record â BUT they never stop him from pushing towards his dream of becoming the BeyoncĂŠ of puppets.
âA Song About Black Loveâ - Infatuated by a blossoming love interest, Ed B works out a new song about the joys of Black love. Billy, Edâs bandmate, roommate and white ally, questions a hidden secret within Edâs relationship and mayhem ensues.
âA Song About Black Loveâ was self funded by Ed Balloon in 2022 primarily through the sale of NFTs. The tentpole fundraising project was the Run Ed Collection, a first-of-its-kind generative sound and motion NFT project that blended stop-motion, 2D and 3D animation, and music. Ed Balloon dropped the 1000 piece collection and it sold out, kickstarting production of the pilot. To help uplift other artists, Ed Balloon pledged 50 percent of the collectionâs secondary sales toward The Ed Balloon Generational Wealth Fund, which collects work from Black and other under-represented artists in Web3.

The possibilities for Nouns integration within the Ed B The Puppet universe are infinite. Noggles can be introduced as unique accessories that Ed and Billy can interact with, enabling them to solve problems or embark on new adventures. Noun characters could even make an appearance, bringing a sense of curiosity, wonder, or even magical qualities to the narrative.
By creating content that celebrates and embraces diversity, we can showcase a wide array of perspectives and experiences. The Ed B âThe Puppetâ Show will feature characters from different backgrounds, challenging stereotypes and fostering empathy among audiences. Through collaboration with the Nouns, we aim to elevate the visibility of diverse voices and promote a more inclusive entertainment landscape.
Satire serves as a powerful tool for social commentary, allowing us to address pertinent societal issues in a thought-provoking and engaging manner. By employing satire, we can challenge the status quo, stimulate critical thinking, and spark conversations that lead to positive change. Our collaboration with the Nouns will provide a platform for satirical content that encourages viewers to question and reconsider established norms.
Our project embraces the spirit of collaboration within the web3 community. By partnering with the Nouns, we aim to showcase the power of collaboration in amplifying diverse voices and driving innovation. Through cross-platform promotions, joint marketing initiatives, and immersive fan experiences, we can create a unified front that promotes solidarity within the industry. We will be using noun features (Noggles, characters, etc) in these episodes.
Spearheading cultural representation and identity through his music and digital art, Ed Balloon has solidified himself not only as a Web3 artist and musician but also as a community leader. Known for his innovative approach to music making, dynamic production style, and unique blend of electronic, hip-hop, and R&B, his 2022 Run Ed collection was presented as a one-of-a-kind generative sound and motion endeavor that blended stop-motion, 2D and 3D animation, and music. To help uplift other artists, 50 percent of the collectionâs secondary sales continued to go toward The Ed Balloon Generational Wealth Fund, which collects work from Black and other under-represented artists in Web3. The pioneering musician also recently self-funded through the sale of NFTs the stop motion animated satire "A SONG ABOUT BLACK LOVE.â Executive produced by Daveed Diggs and starring Ed alongside actor Seth Green, the film showcases the difficulties of finding love as a black puppet. Ed was also recently nominated to nftnow's NFT100, a celebration of the top 100 influential creators and community leaders in the NFT space.

In conclusion, our proposal to fund two additional shows based on our pilot short film presents an exciting opportunity to amplify diversity and utilize satire to address societal issues. By collaborating with the Nouns, we can showcase the power of diverse voices, challenge established norms, and foster inclusivity in the entertainment industry.
This feels like a big bet worth taking in my opinion. I have found Ed to be super genuine and very excited about nouns. (Link to the podcast where we spoke at length about his journey and his prop: https://youtu.be/1f6sUZlL1wE?si=VOIg5jm8TTENK-MQ) Stop-motion is time-consuming and therefore expensive, but is also incredible when done well. Additionally, cosigns from Seth Green and Daveed Diggs are pretty incredible and I think we should embrace artists with followings who "get" nouns and want to put their spin on the IP and bring it to a new and broader audience. Good luck Ed! If this doesn't pass, I hope you stick around, take feedback and resubmit at a later date.
Ed has shown himself to be thoughtful and passionate about nouns, and has shared some interesting ideas about how nouns will be integrated as a central character and theme in this piece. Stop motion is expensive, but Ed has a great reputation, and the involvement of Seth Green and Daveed Diggs on this project should help with visibility and distribution. The DAO needs to take big bets on talented builders, and working with Ed, Seth and Daveed on this feels like a good bet to take in our opinion.
this is a similar proposal to https://nounsagora.com/proposals/371 which i voted "FOR", but:
unfortunately, i don't know the stop motion industry well enough and don't feel comfortable approving spending $800k on this movie
Ed has been a leader in the space and after hearing him talk on a variety of Pods it felt like he understood the culture and had a solid plan for moving forward and making Nouns an integral part of the world he's building.
The creative looks awesome and the team is star studded and feels like the type of risk the DAO should take on the path of attracting the best creatives in the world.

Personally, I like the style and narration of âThe Puppetâ TV series. However, I am voting âabstainâ because NounsDAO can only fund a few such big projects. I would love to see a story built around nouns themselves rather than just giving them a shout-out. I wonder if there is a more natural way for nouns to be featured in the TV series.
Additionally, I would recommend setting milestones and requesting the full funding amount to be held in a multi-sig with trusted nouners. Then, funds can be sent to the team upon completion of each milestone, and the connection between the proposing team and NounsDAO can be maintained via trusted nouners.

mostly agree with the sentiment and thoughts of the other against voters
(noun40 voting via agora)
appreciate the proposal ed. it's not easy to put yourself out there and put a prop onchain like this.
I do share the concerns of the other votes against though. it does seem like this is more of nouns (whether it's in the form of characters or elements) is more of an add-on to an existing story, cast, and direction. it's a bit hard for us to foot the entire production bill for a setup like this imo.
I also think it's worth pointing out that there's kind of a history to the voters feeling this way. for the art film props where we've funded nounish elements being added to an existing initiative (xanadu https://nouns.wtf/vote/135 or worst case decision https://nouns.wtf/vote/179), things haven't really worked out that well. on the other hand when the entire project was inspired by nouns itself (rose parade documentary https://nouns.wtf/vote/166 or nouns movie https://nouns.wtf/vote/245) there was better alignment and we've in general been happy with that.
just sharing a bit more context to express that (while i love the work!) imo it's unlikely for "will add nouns characters" to get something funded of this size. sorry this isn't likely what you wanted to hear. hope you stick around ed!
would like to play the demo honestly, think this would be an easy yes if the demo was even playable in part.

Voting against because Nouns feels like an extension or add-on to another story.
One of the trade offs in being able to ask for and receive large amounts of capital so quickly is that, much like internet culture and its memes, the creators have to be dialed into the culture in order to go viral. Works the same for Nouns. Props that showcase deep understanding of Nounish culture tend to be an immediate âfuck yesâ as opposed to having to be thought through.
Please reconsider and good luck!

I would like to see more details on the distribution strategy. Nouns as an organization has not proven to be great at distribution when left to our own devices. The budget would be worth it if we had some real distribution outside of the Nouns/NFT/CT bubble. High quality animation & storytelling + distribution is the key to Noun polling the world.
Props that showcase deep understanding of Nounish culture tend to be an immediate âfuck yesâ as opposed to having to be thought through.
+1 seneca and others with similar sentiments
far too large of an ask for nouns to just be integrated into the Ed B universe, the prop speaks in hypotheticals saying nouns could even make an appearance -- how could they not with the DAO funding the entirety of the project?
as 12 pointed out, the works from a previous web3 fundraise earlier this year have also yet to be delivered
Appreciate the energy but agreed that the ask is too large. Would love to see smaller Nouns initiatives build up a track record

Echoing some of the reasons brought up by other voters. Similar concerns were brought up in some of the lil nouns prop discussions... Largely coming down to cost for vocal voters. Hope to see another version of this in the future, really like Eds style and art!

I believe we need to be doing more projects that create diverse content from creatives that can deliver. I don't think content needs to be strictly nounish, we need to show that any good content can be funded and a subtle nod to nouns through clever use of noggles is all you need.
Too much for an initial ask. Would like to see proof of positive contribution to nouns and more incremental proposals.
Love the art and the creatorâs energy, but as general advice, I would encourage more upfront nounish proof of work before coming in with a big prop. Stick around, show us some sketches (storyboard, character mock-up etc) and propose a pilot or even a 30s teaser with a smaller ask.
Against sentiment feedback shared already during the candidate phase. I love the creators here, but i do feel Nouns seem like an add-on to an already active workstream.
For the size of ask here, it ultimately pushed me to the other side of the fence.
Voting against because Nouns feels like an extension or add-on to another story.

Too much for an initial ask (implied total ask is 4% of the treasury fwiw) and questions about execution and what is Nounish about what we'd be even funding. Wwe opted not to fund 100k to be a title sponsor and named producer for an award winning documentarian last year --> there's less track record here and 5-8x the cost depending on whether we fund Phase 1 or both Phase 1 and 2. The vote for that film was 6 for to 128 against. https://nouns.wtf/vote/232
Ed Balloon has an NFT collection (https://opensea.io/collection/run-ed) from April 2022 that raised 120 ETH to fund a 10 minute pilot, he's committed to the Web3 world Nouns is in. But we've only got this short trailer to see as example work from that funding. This ask is more than that one which wasn't yet been completed or is not viewable yet.
So I'd 1) to see the full work delivered from the previous non-Nouns raise and 2) to have more of a sense of what it would mean to make Nouns central to an episode and 3) to start much smaller no matter what.
Thanks for the Proposal, love the stop motion, and good luck.
